Husson suspends Drew and Snider

Sara Snider and Morgan Drew, two freshmen at Husson College in Bangor, have been suspended indefinitely from the Braves basketball team by head coach Harold Williams.

Snider, of Milbridge, and Drew, of Calais, spent more than 48 hours in Washington County jail this week after they were arrested for violating bail conditions stemming from their March arrests for allegedly burglarizing a Princeton home.

Drew and Snider violated conditions of their bail by attempting to drive back to Bangor together Sunday afternoon. The original bail conditions mandated the two women not have any unsupervised contact with each other, although they were permitted to attend Husson practices, games and team functions.

Williams said the situation constitutes a violation of Husson’s student conduct code and led to the suspensions.

“Pam Hennessey, the athletic director, an I talked it over and we decided to suspend them from the team based upon the information that was provided to us,” Williams said Thursday night.

“They sign a code of conduct agreement that the school has set up,” he said. “What happened, they broke the code of conduct agreement.”

Husson College President William Beardsley said there is no other pending action against the women as part of Husson’s judicial process. Beardsley also said neither Snider nor Drew has appealed the suspensions.

“At some point in time we’re hoping that they can get their lives going in a positive direction and hopefully put some of this stuff behind them that’s been going on,” Williams said. “We still care about them.”

Both Snider and Drew remain enrolled at Husson and will continue to attend classes.

The suspensions leave Williams with 10 players, most of them freshmen, on the Husson women’s basketball team.

“Those are two big losses for us,” Williams said. “We’re probably going to have to adjust our game plan as well. They were going to be a big part of what we did.”
