FORT KENT – David J. Edwards, geologist and educator from Dumfries, Scotland, will be on the University of Maine at Fort Kent campus Nov. 5-11.
Edwards received his degree in geology from Edinburgh University and a postgraduate certificate in education from St. Martin’s College. Since that time he has been involved in field research and education. He is teaching at Glasgow University’s Crichton campus.
Edwards will lecture to students in a variety of classes on campus and will give a short lunchtime presentation on his experiences in Botswana.
He will meet with education students to discuss his experiences teaching science in the outdoors. He also will visit local schools and Boy Scout troops.
At 7 p.m. Friday, Edwards will present “Montserrat: Snakes and Volcanoes,” and will demonstrate what it is like to monitor wildlife on an island while a volcano is active.
At 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, his presentation will be “A Ranger at the Grand Canyon.”
Edwards was a National Park Service ranger in the Grand Canyon in 1995.
