International Paper to cut 100 jobs in Jay

JAY – International Paper Co. will eliminate about 100 maintenance and operations jobs from its Androscoggin Mill.

Seventy-eight jobs will be phased out by year’s end, and about 22 will be eliminated next year to cut the work force to 1,129, the Sun Journal reported.

Voluntary severance packages will be offered to about 75 workers, and 25 jobs will be cut through attrition, IP spokeswoman Donna Peare said.

Severance packages would have been offered to both salaried and hourly employees under an earlier plan. But Peare said Tuesday that the packages would be offered only to hourly workers.
