Bangor Daily News High School Players of the Week

BOYS

Big School (Classes A-B)

MIKE PRENTISS

The Bangor High junior split end caught five passes for 112 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown pass, in the Rams’ football loss to Waterville in the PTC quarterfinals. Prentiss also had a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown called back on a penalty.

Small School (Classes C-D)

JAMES FRIEND

Friend, the senior goalie for the George Stevens Academy soccer team, recorded three shutouts as the Eagles of Blue Hill won quarterfinal, semifinal, and Eastern Maine C championship games. He made 25 saves on 49 shots.

GIRLS

Big School (Classes A-B)

BRITTANY DAMON

A senior goalie for the Bucksport soccer team, Damon allowed one goal in three games to lead the Golden Bucks to their first Eastern Maine Class B title. Damon made 18 saves on 33 shots in three games and recorded her 11th and 12th shutouts of the year. She has allowed six goals in 17 games.

Small School (Classes C-D)

HELEN POTTLE

Pottle, a freshman at Shead High in Eastport, took second overall in the Class D state cross country championship race, following up her first place in the Downeast Athletic Conference championship meet last month. Pottle turned in a 21:37 in Saturday’s state meet.
