Police recover body of missing woman

OTIS – The discovery of a car parked on a dirt road sparked a 61/2-hour search Wednesday that resulted in the recovery of the body of a Hampden woman missing since Nov. 1, according to the Maine Warden Service.

A warden discovered the woman’s blue Honda Accord a half-mile down a dirt road off the Scotts Neck Road near Green Lake at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sgt. Pat Devlin of the Maine Warden Service said. Six wardens and two warden canine units, with the assistance of five members of the volunteer organization Maine Search and Rescue Dogs and five of their canines, scoured the area until 2 p.m. when the woman was found in woods several hundred yards from her vehicle.

The cause of the woman’s death will be determined by the Maine State Medical Examiner’s Office, Devlin said. Officials are not releasing the identity of the woman. She was reported missing to the Hampden Police Department on Nov. 1.
