Arcady concert, school visits

BANGOR – The Russian Brass Quintet, which received enthusiastic standing ovations at Arcady’s Summer 2000 Music Festival, will return to Maine as the second program of the Arcady Winter Concert Series, at 7 p.m. Nov. 18, in Bangor.

The group, formed in 1997 by members of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic and Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater, has been praised by Konradin Groth, principal trumpeter of the Berlin Philharmonic, for its “typical Russian power, combined with elegance and superb technique.”

Russian Brass also is known for its creative additions to the second half of its classical programs, which Arcady officials said might best be described as “a touch of the wild and wacky.”

Russian Brass will perform at the Unitarian Universalist Church, Park Street. The musicians also will visit schools in Dedham and Holden.

Concert tickets are $15 at the door, $13 in advance at local stores. Those under 18 are admitted free. For information, call 990-2805 or 288-2141.
