NORTHPORT – Adam Zukowski scored the game-winner on a scramble in front of the net in the 77th minute the University of Maine-Farmington men’s soccer team edged UMaine-Fort Kent 2-1 Thursday in a Sunrise Conference semifinal game at Point Lookout.

The Beavers, now 11-4-1, move on to the conference championship game against UM-Machias.

Todd Chamberlain scored UMF first goal and picked up an assist on the game-winner.

Juan Murphy scored for the 14-2-1 Bengals five minutes into the game with a 30-yard shot.

UM-Machias 3, St. Joseph’s 1

At the Point Lookout field in Northport Wednesday, Pat Morgan’s goal in the 85th minute proved to be the game-winner as the Clippers topped the Monks in a Sunrise Conference semifinal.

Jorge Tassara assisted on Morgan’s winner. Brett Howarth scored two goals for UM-Machias (14-2-1). Andy Swift and Cortenay Campbell combined to make eight saves on nine shots.

Nicholas Denett scored a goal with an assist from Jesse Fowler for the 5-9-1 Beavers. Bryan Fischer stopped 12 of 29 shots.

Women’s soccer

UM-Farmington 6, Simmons 1

At Gorham, Dorice Reitchel scored three goals while Becky Christiansen had a goal and an assist as 11-6 UM-Farmington sailed past Simmons.

Nikki Levesque also had a goal and an assist while Kristen Allen added a goal. Sarah Dailey and Angie White each recorded assists while Fawn Albert made seven saves.

Tanya Rego scored the lone goal for 7-10 Simmons while Tiffany Collins stopped 11 shots.

Reporting games

Guidelines for coaches

During this busy sports season, the NEWS asks that managers and coaches for the home teams promptly report the games. Games can be reported starting at 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 3 p.m. on Sundays. Games can not be reported on Saturday.

Those seeking to report games from the Greater Bangor area may call at 990-8275. Those outside the Bangor area may call toll free at 1-800-310-8600. Game results will also be accepted through the fax machine. Its number is 990-8092.

Coaches and managers are urged to provide details for both teams when reporting games. First names of players on both teams as well as statistics are needed. Those not providing full details for both teams run the risk of the games not being published in the paper.
