Communities plan Veterans Day events

. BANGOR and BREWER – The annual Veterans Day Parade will kick off at 10:15 a.m. from the Brewer Shopping Center. Veterans and military units, bands and other organizations will proceed across the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge to Bangor, then down Main Street for ceremonies in West Market Square. Helicopters of the 112th Medical Company and an aircraft from the 101st Air Refueling Wing will fly over at 11 a.m.

The parade will disband when it reaches Fleet Bank on Exchange Street.

. BANGOR – A “Celebration of Heroes,” conducted by the Rev. Kristin Orr of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, will be held 9-9:30 a.m. at Cole Land Transportation Museum, 405 Perry Road.

At noon, veterans and their families are invited to the Cole museum free of charge. At 12:30 p.m., essay winners will read their responses to “What Freedom Means to Me After Interviewing a Veteran,” in the Suzanne W. Cole Conference Room at the museum.

At 2 p.m., the Bangor Band, conducted by Fred Heath, will perform a free concert featuring popular and symphonic pieces, as well as patriotic music, at the museum. The museum will close for the season at 5 p.m.

. ORONO – A new Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Monday at the Nadeau-Savoy Park at Gould’s Landing on Pushaw Lake. The memorial honors Orono soldiers Sgt. 1st Class Clayton Savoy, who was killed in action on May 29, 1970, and Pfc. Larry Nadeau, an Army paratrooper killed in action Jan. 2, 1966.

The dedication is open to the public. For information, call 866-5065.
