Bangor Savings names center after ex-official

BANGOR – Bangor Savings Bank has renamed its operations center at 19 Maine Ave. in Bangor to honor former bank president Malcolm E. Jones. The center, which houses the bank’s computer systems, deposit and loan servicing and other administrative and facilities management functions was built in 1993 and is now staffed by more than 125 employees. The facility now will be known as The Malcolm E. Jones Technology Center.

The honor was intended to mark both the 150th anniversary of the bank’s founding as well as the coming 10th anniversary of the center’s completion. The bank’s board of trustees lauded Jones’ vision and leadership, noting “his passion for investing in the city of Bangor, for retaining quality employment in the Bangor region, and for creating new employment opportunities for Maine’s young people in an increasingly complex financial services industry, right here at home.”

Malcolm “Mal” Jones served continuously with Bangor Savings Bank from 1954 to 1995. He was the bank’s president from 1975 to 1995 and a member of the board of trustees from 1975 to 1996. He and his wife, Barbara, continue to live in Bangor and remain active in numerous community activities and civic affairs.
