Houlton’s silver screen

Special thanks to Wayne L. Brown of the Bangor Daily News for his excellent Nov. 4 article and beautiful photo of the Temple Theatre in Houlton.

It was heartwarming to see such a nice photo of parents and children lined up in front of the theater to see a family movie. The theater is under new ownership and has been completely renovated. The former Temple Cinema closed Dec. 31, 2001.

The entire Houlton area is very fortunate to once again have a motion picture theater. Unfortunately, many do not realize the value of a movie theater until they lose it. A theater is beneficial to a town for recreation and helping other businesses.

Hopefully, special towns like Millinocket will some day have a movie theater again. They have not had one since 1984. Sadly, the former Four Star Theatre building there will have to be torn down. Although many small town theaters are gone, many wonderful memories of them will always be with us.
