BANGOR – Sixteen Boys Scouts from Troop 10 of Bangor spent the weekend of Oct. 4-6 on a living history trip to Plimoth Plantation and the Mayflower II in Plymouth, Mass.; and to Battleship Cove in Fall River, Mass.
Aboard the Mayflower II and at Plimoth Plantation the boys explored and observed what it was like to live in the 1620s. The Scouts could ask questions to the characters in costume about how the Pilgrims lived in the early 1600s.
Troop 10 spent Saturday night aboard the destroyer USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. in Battleship Cove. The troop explored and learned about the Battleship USS Massachusetts, a “battlewagon” in World War II. They also explored the submarine USS Lionfish and the Russian-built missile corvette, Hiddensee.
This trip has enabled the boys of Troop 10 to explore their history and heritage, to work on merit badges such as American Heritage and Indian lore, and to better understand and appreciate the contributions made by the armed service personnel memorialized at Battleship Cove.
The Scouts that participated in the trip are from Bangor, Dixmont, Exeter, Hampden, Holden and Veazie, and ranged in age from 11 to 18, grades five-12. Also participating were a Girl Scout from Troop 387 and a Cub Scout from Pack 10.
