Masked man with gun arrested on robbery charge

Bangor police investigating a report of a disturbance at 114 Center St. on Wednesday afternoon were confronted at the scene by a man wearing a mask and carrying a firearm.

Authorities charged 26-year-old John Seeber of Glenburn with robbery and aggravated furnishing of a Schedule W drug. Few details were available about the incident and a statement released by Sgt. Mark Hathaway indicated that the matter is still under investigation by the Bangor Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Two teenagers who took a shot at a deer in Glenburn at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday were stopped before they could get very far from the scene in a taxicab.

A resident of Route 221 in Glenburn called police in the early morning ours to report that a shot had been fired nearby. Penobscot County sheriff’s deputies, including Sgt. Troy Morton, arrived to investigate and their cruisers were seen by the two teenagers who were in the field off the road, said Warden Dan Scott. The two then went to a friend’s home nearby and called for a taxicab.

Scott said that he arrived with a K-9 and was just starting the search, when investigators noticed the taxicab pulling away, just up the street. Deputies stopped the car and spoke to the two youths in the back, eliciting confessions from the two.

Scott said the two admitted that they had been driving down the road when they noticed deer in the field and decided to shoot one. Standing on the roadside, one held a spotlight to illuminate the deer and the other took a shot with a 12-gauge shotgun.

One shot was fired, an apparent miss as the youths searched the area but were unable to come up with the deer. Seeing the deputies’ cruisers, they hid the gun behind a barn, abandoned their vehicle and headed to a friend’s home.

Aaron Burke, 18, of Bangor and a 16-year-old from Bangor whose name was not being released because of his age, were both charged with night hunting.
