PARKMAN – After more than three months, the state Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled that health-related problems caused the deaths of an elderly couple on July 4.
Leon Melvin, 70, and his wife, Ruth Melvin, 76, were found dead in their older mobile home in Parkman at about 10:30 a.m. Independence Day. Police suspected that health problems combined with the hot, humid weather the region experienced during the time were contributing factors to the deaths.
The state Medical Examiner’s Office ruled recently that Leon Melvin died of severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Ruth Melvin’s death was attributed to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
