Bangor Hydro reports nearly 4,000 outages

Nearly 4,000 Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. customers lost their power Monday as the result of high winds that swept through the region.

The largest outage of the day left approximately 3,000 people in Dexter, Exeter, Corinth, Corinna, Levant, Kenduskeag, Garland and Hudson without power from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Bangor Hydro outage coordinator Bob Toole Jr. said. The loss of power was traced to downed lines on Route 43 in Corinth.

An outage spanning Aurora, Mariaville, Amherst and Great Pond in Hancock County occurred from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday and affected several hundred customers. It was linked to a downed line just north of the Mariaville Fire Department, Toole said.

Crews restored the power to nearly 30 customers in Old Town within an hour after it went out at around 7:30 p.m. The power loss was believed to have been “storm related” though no cause was available.

Crews continued to work on an outage in Bowerbank and Sebec on Monday night after an outage had been reported at 7 p.m., Toole said. No information was available about the outage’s cause or when it would be repaired.

After attempting to cope with 15,000 customers without power on Sunday, Central Maine Power was attempting to restore power to 250 customers Monday night. Broken telephone poles in Levant and Stetson had shut off power to 200.

The outages did not create problems for emergency officials in Hancock, Penobscot and Piscataquis counties, officials from those agencies said.
