AUGUSTA – Gov. Angus King has declared Nov. 21 as World Affairs Council of Maine Day throughout the state. The benevolent organization celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Nov. 18-22 also is International Education Week.

“Now more than ever, it is vital for people everywhere to understand how global affairs can have a significant impact on our everyday lives,” said Matthew Gardner, president of the World Affairs Council of Maine.

The nonprofit, nonpartisan organization promotes statewide education and understanding of international affairs through diverse programs, events and outreach. The goal is to increase awareness of the importance of international relations, including commerce, immigration and globalization, to Maine.
