PORTLAND – An Ohio-based broadcasting company has agreed to buy Portland’s PAX network television station.
Corporate Media Consultants Group reached an agreement last week to buy WMPX for $10 million from Florida-based Paxson Communications Corp.
The sale needs approval from the Federal Communications Commission and is expected to go through next year.
Corporate Media Consultants Group expects to provide new programming, which will be announced in about a week and a half, said Charles Glover, a partner in the Toledo-based company.
The station may retain some of the family-oriented programming from the PAX network and draw on programs from other national networks, Glover said.
It wasn’t clear whether Fox Network programming would be part of the mix, but Glover said WMPX will air programming that “Portland hasn’t had in a while.”
Maine’s only over-the-air carrier of the Fox Network, WPXT, switched to the WB Network in October 2001.
