PORTLAND – The Casco Bay Weekly is suspending publication after 14 years in business.

Dodge Morgan, the owner of the alternative weekly, told the staff today that he was shutting down the paper.

Publisher Lael Morgan, who was once married to Dodge Morgan, said the paper has not been able to achieve “financial independence.”

“The losses and the actuarial tables plod on, and we have been unable to woo a replacement financial angel,” she said. “The conclusion became obvious.”

Casco Bay Weekly was founded in 1988. It claimed a circulation of 30,000.
