ALFRED – A Presque Isle woman has pleaded innocent to charges she helped her boyfriend avoid being caught for the murder of a Canadian tourist in Old Orchard Beach last summer.

Aimee Pelletier, 23, pleaded innocent Thursday to hindering apprehension, attempted theft and assault before York County Superior Court Justice Paul Fritzsche. She is free on $20,000 bail.

Prosecutors say Pelletier was present when her boyfriend, Benjamin Humphrey, killed Derek Rogers, 47, of Russell, Ontario, in the early morning hours of July 31. The killing occurred on a section of beach at Old Orchard Beach.

After a five-day nationwide search, South Dakota police arrested Humphrey and Pelletier without incident in a shopping mall in Rapid City, S.D. Humphrey pleaded innocent during a hearing Oct. 29 to a charge of murder.
