PRESQUE ISLE – Sarah Quint scored 13 points including a 3-pointer in the final minute of the game to lead the University of Maine-Fort Kent to the Star City Shootout championship with a 48-46 win over UM-Presque Isle Sunday.

Whitney Zettergren contributed with 11 points while Hiedi Fisher added 10 for the Bengals.

Rachel Larlee led the UM-Presque Isle Owls with 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists while Erica McGary netted 14 points and pulled down 16 rebounds.

On Saturday, McGary and Larlee scored 17 points apiece to help carry UM-Presque Isle past Fisher 75-24 in one preliminary game.

Sheena Tremblay added 16 points for the Owls while Sarah Nason chipped in with 12 points.

Tarrik Baker led Fisher College with 17 points and 11 assists.

In the other Saturday game, Nikki Brown scored 12 points and had nine rebounds to help lead the Bengals past Atlantic Baptist 56-44.

Allison Lutz contributed with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Fisher had 12 points.

Katie Maciver led Atlantic Baptist with 14 points.

USM, UM-Farmington triumph

At Gorham, Jocelyn Sawyer scored 14 points, collared seven rebounds and made five steals as the Beavers upended the Husson College Braves 76-44 in the consolation game at the University of Southern Maine’s Tip-Off Tournament Saturday.

The University of Southern Maine’s women beat Ithaca College 69-60 in the championship game behind Most Valuable Player Meg Cressler’s game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds, Tiffany Jones’ 16 points and Jess Libby’s 11 points.

In the consolation game, Cheryl Kempton scored 11 points and had six rebounds for the winners; Meagan Cyr scored 10 points; Kate LaHaye pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and Hannah Socoby dished out seven assists, which led both teams.

Sophomore Holly Gracie had a game-high 16 points for the Braves. She also had three assists and three steals. Caroline Fry added eight points. Stephanie Fry, Sarah Davis and Brooke Turner had five rebounds each to share team honors.

At Waterville, the Mules set school records for points and assists (30) in a game and senior center Sarah Walsh eclipsed the 1,000-point mark with a 33-point performance in the Colby Tournament final.

Walsh also grabbed 17 rebounds and her two steals gave her 179 for her career.

Roger Williams (R.I.) beat St. Joseph’s College 71-68 in overtime in the consolation game.

Bianca Belcher scored 30 points and Wendy Bonner had 20 for Colby while Christine O’Donnell had 16 more to go with her game-high 11 assists.

Whitney Morin’s 30 points, Courtney Albert’s 18, Heather Adey’s 16 points and eight rebounds and Jenn Pelletier’s 15 points and eight assists led Plymouth State.

C.J. Vose had 21 points for the Monks and he also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.

Randy Fletcher scored 19 points for Husson of Bangor. He also pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds. Robert Pilsbury contributed 18 points, four assists and four steals and Dwayne Alley chipped in 10 points and four assists.

Coop Nickerson contributed 18 points and 19 rebounds, Darold Harbin had 12 points and Chris Melgard contributed 10.

Dan Emerson’s 15 points, Tim Dolley’s 13, Vjeko Jadric’s 11 and Cliff Smith’s 10 points paced the Owls.
