PORTLAND – Quarterback Keith Derrig completed 15 of 20 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns to lead Portland to a 41-6 victory over Edward Little of Auburn in Saturday’s Class A state championship football game.
The state title was the first in 20 years for the Bulldogs, who finished the season with a 12-0 record.
Carl Frye scored twice and rushed for 159 yards on 29 carries while Will Hews caught a 31-yard TD pass and returned an interception 65 yards for another score. David Philbrook caught two touchdown passes from Derrig.
For the 7-5 Red Eddies, junior running back Chris LeClair scored the only touchdown on a 6-yard run in the final quarter.
