BATH – Some residents are upset about a new riverfront park that is being built for the city on land owned by Bath Iron Works.

They complain that a mound on the 6-acre parcel blocks views of the Kennebec River in violation of an agreement the shipyard made with the Department of Environmental Protection. They want the mound flattened.

DEP spokeswoman Marybeth Richardson said the department cannot force the company to flatten the property, and that BIW has satisfied its obligation to create a park on the site.
