BREWER – William LoPotro, a biology-life science and advanced placement biology teacher at Brewer High School was honored recently as an outstanding biology teacher by the National Association of Biology Teachers, in conjunction with Prentice Hall, at the association’s annual meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio, in August. He was cited for his teaching ability, inventiveness, and years of experience.
LoPotro has been a teacher for 34 years, the last 28 years with Brewer High School. His advanced placement biology curriculum includes an annual hike up Mount Katahdin and a canoe trip to study the ecology of the Penobscot River.
In 2001, Bowdoin College selected LoPotro as a distinguished high school teacher, and he received a lifetime distinguished teaching award from Brewer High School in 2002. He also was a regional finalist for the 2003 Maine Teacher of the Year award.
