Christmas assistance

Applications are available for The Salvation Army’s Christmas assistance program.

Salvation Army program director Mary McKay said applications would be taken from 9 a.m. to noon daily at The Salvation Army’s 65 South Park St. location in Bangor.

“Because the new building is in transition, and it’s so crazy, we’re taking the applications here,” she said.

The Salvation Army is in the process of moving all of its services to a new site on Broadway in Bangor, but McKay wants people to know that much of the work is still being done at the old location.

The Salvation Army’s Christmas assistance program offers qualifying individuals and families help with food and holiday gifts for their children, McKay said.

Those filling out applications need to provide income and expense information, she said.

The program assists qualifying people living in Bangor, Brewer, Dedham, Exeter, Glenburn, Hermon, Holden, Levant, Kenduskeag, Newburgh, Newburgh Center, North Orrington, Orrington, South Levant, Veazie and West Levant, McKay said.

People residing in one of these communities may call The Salvation Army’s Bangor office at 941-2990 for more information.

McKay said those seeking information about the Christmas assistance program who do not live in one of the towns listed that is served by The Salvation Army in Bangor may call the Bangor office and its staff will provide you with the telephone number of a contact person in your area.
