Bowdoin women edge USM in 2OT

BRUNSWICK – Lora Trenkle opened the second overtime with a layup and added a 3-pointer to help the Bowdoin College Polar Bears edge the Southern Maine Huskies 78-76 in women’s basketball action Monday night.

USM came back twice to send the game into the extra sessions as Jessica Libby hit a running jumper at the buzzer to send the game into the second overtime after Megan Cressler nailed a 25-foot 3-pointer to send it into the first extra session.

Trenkle finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the winners. Justine Pouravelis chipped in with 20 points and Kristi Royer netted 13.

Tiffany Jones poured in 31 points to lead USM while Cressler, Libby and Kristen Tong each added 10. Kara Crockett grabbed nine rebounds.

At Farmington, the UMaine-Machias Clippers jumped out to a 41-27 lead at the half and then held off the UM-Farmington Beavers for the victory.

Chujor Chujor paced the winners with 13 points and Gary Dussard added 11. Albert Whittaker notched four assists and Courtenay Campbell grabbed 12 rebounds.

Steve Ginn and Thad Broughton each scored 12 points for UMF. Luke Nielsen had 11 rebounds and Travis Magnusson recorded seven assists.

Jason Levecque scored 21 points for USM and Ryan Garland added nine.
