Co-workers’ benefit to defray nurse’s expenses

Fellow employees of Gouldsboro Clinic nurse Gail Hasting, who is recovering from recent back surgery, will hold a benefit show to help with her medical expenses beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday Dec. 7, at the Trenton Grange Hall.

The event features the local band Angeline the Baker, which Hasting’s co-worker and member Curtis Russet describes as “up and coming.”

Sepp Huber, Bill Thayer and a third clinic employee, Sheila Unvala Saad, complete the band, which plays its own brand of “Down East soul music” to which you can dance or just sit back, relax and listen.

An extra added attraction, Russet said, is that the clinic’s doctor, Joseph Nabozny, and its manager, Kay Campbell, “will join us on a few numbers,” with Campbell helping out on vocals and Nabozny on the guitar.

Donations will be accepted at the door; refreshments will be on sale; and everyone is welcome to attend.

The annual Amicus Craft Fair is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at the Multiple Handicap Center, 96 Thirteenth St. in Bangor.

Karen Benson of Amicus reports proceeds from this year’s sale will be used to buy adaptive equipment for program participants. Amicus is a nonprofit agency that serves adults with disabilities.

St. John’s Episcopal Church’s Homes for the Holidays Christmas tour, noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, features five historic Bangor homes. Visitors have the option of viewing two of the houses for a $10 admission fee, or paying $20 to visit all five houses.

Tickets are available at each house during the tour, at Molly’s in Winterport and in Bangor at Patrick’s Hallmark in the Broadway Shopping Center, Rebecca’s on Main Street or at the church office, 234 French St.

The featured homes are 48-50 Penobscot St., 51 Grove St., 66 Madison St., 300 Kenduskeag Ave. and the Thomas A. Hill House, 159 Union St.

Folks in the Greenville area will delight in the annual Inn Walk. 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, when bed and breakfast owners in that community offer tours of their decorated homes, complete with holiday treats and warm drinks.

A collaborative effort of the local B&Bs and the C.A. Dean Auxiliary, proceeds from your $5 admission will benefit the auxiliary’s support of the planned renovation and expansion of C.A. Dean Memorial Hospital & Nursing Home. Inn Walk tickets will be on sale the day of the tour at each participating B&B, or can be purchased at the C.A. Dean front office or the Moosehead Lake Region Chamber of Commerce.

Participating B&Bs are the Blair Hill Inn, the Canders House, the Captain Sawyer House, the Evergreen Lodge at Moosehead, Greenville Inn, the Lodge at Moosehead, the Pleasant Street Inn and the Stowe Inn.

You can take a horse-drawn wagon ride around town from 3 to 6:45 p.m., then sing carols around the community Christmas tree, which will be lighted at 7 p.m. A Christmas concert featuring the Community Band follows at 7:15 p.m.

The 12th annual John Bapst Memorial High School Fine Arts Boosters’ Christmas Crafts Fair is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in the school’s auditorium and gymnasium at 100 Broadway in Bangor. The event features more than 50 Maine crafters, music by the JBMHS Chorale and Chamber Ensemble, and lunch for those who don’t want to interrupt their shopping!

Bangor Community Chorus presents its 34th annual Christmas Concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex St. in Bangor.

Member Carolyn McKinnon reports the group will offer “an interesting and varied program of traditional Christmas carols and popular songs” that will include solos and ensembles.

Ronald Sherwin is just the fifth BCC conductor since Marion Vafiades of Hampden founded the group in the late 1960s.

Accompanying the 30-member mixed chorus will be Naomi Hall, who has been with the group since 1975.

“Bangor Community Chorus welcomes everyone to come and enjoy the music,” McKinnon said, adding that while the concert is free, “donations will be graciously accepted.”
