Katie Frost helps USM trip up U-New England

GORHAM – Katie Frost tossed in 13 points to help lead the Southern Maine Huskies to a 59-55 women’s basketball victory over the University of New England Nor-easters Thursday night.

Meg Cressler added 11 points and nine rebounds for Southern Maine, and Nikki Allen also scored 11.

Missy Stults led U-New England of Biddeford with 21 points and nine rebounds. Amanda Brown chipped in with 13.

Ebony Phillips paced Pine Manor with 14 points and Liz Sliney added 13.

At Brunswick, the Bobcats of Lewiston outscored the rival Polar Bears 55-28 in the second half to erase a 10-point halftime deficit.

Angelo Salvaggio led the way with 21 points, including four 3-pointers. Brian Gerrity knocked in 18 points, and Chris Messinger added 15. C.J. Neely notched 12.

Danny Ginn led Bowdoin with 24 points. T.J. McLeod and Michael Harding had 11 each, and Kyle Petrie chipped in 10.

Jason Levecque paced USM with 29 points, Ryan Garland put in 15 and Mike Francoeur had 14.

At Unity, Mike Graham led five Central Maine Technical College players in double figures with 34 points to pace the win.

CMTC overcame a career-high 47 points by Unity sophomore center Jeremy Kervin of Hodgdon. Kervin also had 12 rebounds and five blocked shots.

Chris Brackett had 23 points for the winners, Rory Dupuis scored 16 and Kevin Beck contributed 11 as did Josh Berard.

Noah Schneider complemented Kervin with 16 points.
