Orono edges Houlton in overtime

HOULTON – The Orono Red Riots outscored the Houlton Shiretowners 8-5 in overtime to open the schoolboy basketball season with a 64-61 victory Friday night.

Houlton’s Mark Socoby sent the game into overtime when he nailed a 3-pointer with three seconds left.

John Saucier paced Orono with 14 points while Lance Cowan and Jeff Miller each added 13. Mike Socoby netted 10.

Mark Socoby nailed six 3-pointers and finished with 24 points for Houlton. Erik O’Connell added 10 points.
