I read with interest the letter by Carol Adams (BDN, Nov. 28) and agree with her, as I am pretty much in the same situation after having served the church almost 50 years.
My accountant tells me that my annual income is below the poverty level by so much that I don’t have to fill out income taxes anymore. Of course I don’t qualify for welfare, not having a family, and I do not get food stamps either. Trying to get home care as an invalid handicap through Maine Care is like pulling teeth and I’m not a dentist.
How soon the government forgets you once you are no good to them.
