Pilsbury dropped from Husson basketball team Caruso: dismissal was related to academics

Robert Pilsbury, a two-time NAIA All-America third-team player at Husson College in Bangor, has been dismissed from the team.

Coach Warren Caruso made the announcement, indicating Pilsbury was not holding up his end of the bargain in the classroom.

“Robert is not meeting the academic expectations of a student-athlete in the men’s basketball program,” Caruso said in a statement.

Pilsbury, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Portland, was among the most prolific scorers in Maine small-college basketball. He ranked eighth in NAIA Division II last season, averaging 24.3 points per game, on his way to selection as the Maine Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

This season, Pilsbury was averaging 11 points and four assists.

Pilsbury arrived at Husson after a one-year stint at Champlain College in Burlington, Vt. He quickly established himself as one of the state’s best, averaging 25.7 points (No. 2 in NAIA Div. II) on his way to All-MAC first-team honors.
