Accident in Corinth leaves 3 hospitalized Teen driver rear-ends van in front of school

Three people were hospitalized after a two-car accident in front of Central High School in Corinth at 4 p.m. Monday.

An 8-year-old girl from Corinth was seriously injured in the accident after the rear window to the Ford Aerostar van she was riding in shattered during the accident, Deputy Keith Mercier of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said. The girl was being treated at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor. Officials did not release the names of any of the people involved in the accident pending further investigation.

The girl was riding with her mother, 42, and five-year-old brother. The mother had been wearing her seat belt and the two children were in booster seats, Mercier said. The mother had been attempting to make a left turn on Route 15 into the Central High School driveway when the vehicle was rear-ended by a car driven by a 16-year-old girl from Garland.

The Garland teen had two other teen passengers in the car, Mercier said. All three were wearing seat belts. The teen driver and one of her passengers complained of neck pain and were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment. Both vehicles were a complete loss.

Police have no suspects after a pair of car burglaries Sunday.

A 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan had been parked at the Olive Garden Italian Restaurant, 741 Hogan Road, Bangor, between 6:41 p.m. and 7:41 p.m. when someone smashed out a window to the vehicle and stole a purse, Bangor police Officer James Hassard said. The purse belonged to a woman from Nassau, Bahamas, and contained a $900 check to her, credit and ATM cards, three passports from the Bahamas, a plane ticket from Fredericton, New Brunswick, to Toronto to the Bahamas, $500 in United States currency, $25 Canadian currency and $100 Bahamian currency.

The purse also contained an HP digital camera valued at $375, a $125 leather purse, $100 leather wallet, and $40 prescription glasses, Hassard said. Damage to the van was estimated at $300

Sometime Sunday evening, a purse and it’s contents, valued at more than $300, were taken from a 1995 Eagle sport utility vehicle that was burglarized on the Husson College campus in Bangor, Bangor police Officer Butch Moor said. The burglar smashed out the vehicle’s passenger-side window and took a purse that had been left in the car.

The purse, owned by a 20-year-old Milford woman, had contained a 35-millimeter camera, a checkbook, various forms of identification, and $5 cash, Moor said. Police have no leads or suspects in either of the two burglaries. Anyone with information about any of the recent car burglaries should call the Bangor Police Department at 947-7384.

Vandals caused more than $1,000 worth of damage to two trucks owned by Family Tree Landscaping that were parked behind the Airport Mall on Union Street in Bangor when they shot the vehicles with a pellet gun.

The rear, side and front windows were broken out of a blue 1988 Chevy pickup truck, Bangor police Officer Dan Herrick said. The windshield was also broken out of a silver 1995 GMC pickup truck and pellet hole was found in one of the truck’s doors.

A third company vehicle parked with the other two trucks was not damaged, Herrick said. Police have no suspects in the shootings.

A Levant man was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia after the truck he was in was stopped for speeding shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday by Old Town police.

Officers became suspicious when Bobby Harvey, 21, began “acting nervous” while in the front seat of a red 1993 Dodge pickup truck that was stopped in front of 711 Stillwater Avenue for speeding, Old Town police Sgt. Scott Casey said. Police found a marijuana pipe in one of his pockets and a small amount of marijuana between the top and bottom seat cushions in the front seat of the car.

Old Town police Officer Todd Nadeau gave the driver of the car a warning for speeding, Casey said.
