BALTIMORE, Md. – Freshman guard Kevin Reed scored a game-high 19 points while senior Justin Rowe – in his second game this season – finished with 15 points, eight blocked shots, and seven rebounds to lead the University of Maine to an 82-61 men’s basketball victory over Morgan State Monday night.

Reed knocked down four 3-pointers for a second straight game to complement a solid 17-point effort out of Topsham’s Rickey White, who was also playing in his second game since serving a five-game suspension for secondary NCAA rules violations.

Rowe, a 7-foot center, now has 27 points and 14 rebounds in two games.

White shot 88.9 percent (8-for-9) from the field. The Black Bears, now 2-5 after notching their first victory over an NCAA Division I opponent this season, shot 53.4 percent from the field while limiting Morgan State to 33.3 percent – the same percentage Maine shot (7-for-21) from 3-point range for the game at Hill Field House.

The Morgan State Bears, now 0-5, had difficulty matching up defensively with the Black Bears’ frontcourt, but still managed to outrebound Maine 18-9 on the offensive boards and 38-36 overall. Senior forward Clayton Brown led Maine with eight rebounds.

Bangor’s Joe Campbell came off the bench to score 11 points in 24 minutes of action. The 6-foot-6 sophomore swingman also grabbed seven rebounds.

Steve Snipes shot 6-for-6 from the foul line and led Morgan with 15 points and Randy Dukes finished with 12.

Maine, which committed 11 turnovers to Morgan State’s 12, jumped out to an early, comfortable lead and led by 17 (45-28) at halftime.

Maine wraps up a six-game road trip with a stop at Kingston, Rhode Island Saturday night to play the Atlantic 10’s Rhode Island Rams.
