ROCKPORT – Residents with questions about the town’s assessing methods can seek answers at an information session scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the town office.
Rockport selectmen, acting in their role as assessors, earlier this year turned down a plan proposed by assessors’ agent Tom Edwards to increase the assessments of homes in the village and along Penobscot Bay.
Edwards argued that those properties have been selling at values much higher than those assessed by the town.
Instead of following Edwards’ recommendation, selectmen decided to direct him to review all properties in town.
At their meeting Monday night, the assessors also voted to provide property owners with individual notices of changes in valuations, and give them the opportunity to dispute the proposed new valuation.
