Police seek suspect in botched burglary

MEDWAY – Members of the East Millinocket Police Department and Maine Warden Service continued to search for one of at least three people believed to have been attempting a home burglary Thursday night.

A brother and sister from East Millinocket were charged in connection with the botched burglary, officials said. Police issued a summons to Miranda Paoletti, 22, for accessory to burglary and arrested her brother, Jeffrey Paoletti, 18, for possession of tools for burglary.

Police were not sure if Miranda Paoletti had left the car during the attempted burglary, but charged her with accessory to burglary because she had been driving the car, officials said. Jeffrey Paoletti was taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor and will appear in 3rd District Court in Bangor today. He had been out of jail on bail for a previous burglary.

A resident on Route 116 became wary when she noticed people attempting to enter the home of a recently deceased man just before 5 p.m. Thursday, East Millinocket police Officer Dave Cram said. The prospective intruders, already having caused damage to a door to the house, left the area when area residents approached them.

Police searched the area and found a car parked on a four-wheeler trail between Routes 116 and 157, nearly a quarter-mile away from the house, Cram said. When police arrived at the trail, the Paolettis remained with the car, but one man ran off into the woods.

Warden Ronald Dunham and his K-9 were called in to assist with the search for the man, whom police recognized but declined to identify Thursday night, Cram said. Police also had reason to believe that a fourth individual may have been involved, according to witness statements, but police had no leads as to the identity of the fourth person.
