DIXFIELD – A 25-year-old Rumford man died after his car crashed sideways into a telephone pole Saturday.
Police said Stephen Hassett was alive when emergency workers arrived around 3 p.m. but died later at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Hassett’s sedan was southbound on slush-covered Route 142 when it went out of control and struck a telephone pole, snapping it in two.
Officer Jeffrey Howe said the accident was caused by unsafe speed on poor road conditions.
