BANGOR – Ashley Hichborn scored 20 points and blocked five shots to help lead the Eastern Maine Tech Golden Eagles past Southern Maine Tech of South Portland 63-55 in women’s basketball action Tuesday night.
Roni Haverlock scored 12 points and Natalie Foster added 12 for the Eagles. Both Foster and Beth Trundy led a second- half comeback despite starting the second half with four fouls each.
Mary Horak led a quartet of double-digit scorers with 15 points for SMTC. Bethany Messer added 14, Chandra Cordelia put in 13 and Jess Langella netted 11.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Richard Fox set a Jimmy V Classic record with 17 rebounds and Gonzaga spoiled North Carolina State’s first appearance in the event that honors former Wolfpack coach Jim Valvano with a 69-60 victory Tuesday night.
Tony Skinner led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points, and the Bulldogs (6-3) outrebounded the Wolfpack 61-35 to finally looking like the team that led the nation in rebounding last season.
Scooter Sherrill had 22 points, but N.C. State (5-1) had no chance of remaining unbeaten on a night in which it shot 27 percent. The team shot better than 50 percent in its first five games.
The Wolfpack missed 20 straight shots at one point, including the final 19 of the first half.
Julius Hodge added 14 points and Marcus Melvin had 10, but they combined to hit 6 for 29 from the field.
Cory Violette added 12 points and Kyle Bankhead scored all 10 of his in the second half for Gonzaga, which was playing on the road for the seventh time in nine games.
