An 85-year-old Bangor woman was in stable condition Wednesday night after she was hit by a car while crossing the street Tuesday morning.

Myrol Puncochar was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor at about 11 a.m. after Jane E. Host, 23, of Bangor struck her with her car, said Bangor police Officer James Buckley.

Host was turning right from Park Street onto Harlow Street when she struck Puncochar and knocked her down. Puncochar had been attempting to cross the street in an area without a crosswalk. Puncochar complained of chest and abdominal pain and was believed to have suffered injuries to her ribs, officials said. Damage to Host’s 1993 Ford sedan was estimated at $100. Host was not injured.

Two homeless men were issued warnings for trespassing after they broke into a home they had recently occupied, said Bangor police Officer James Dearing.

Lewis Linker, 21, and Michael Wescott, 20, told police Monday they had been staying with a friend at his High Street home for nearly three weeks, but the friend had been admitted to Acadia Hospital and had taken with him the only key to the residence, Dearing said. When police first arrived they found Wescott had shoved razors and a can of shaving cream into his pockets. The men told police they had wanted to retrieve their backpacks containing their clothing from a bedroom in the apartment.

A neighbor called police when she saw two men enter the apartment through a window they had broken shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, Dearing said.

Linker admitted to breaking the window. Police later learned that the friend did not want to press charges for the broken $50 window, and both men were given a trespass warning and were allowed to retrieve their backpacks.

A Rockland man alleged that $360 worth of Christmas presents and prescription drugs were stolen from his car Sunday night while it was sitting in the Bangor Mall parking lot.

In a report filed Tuesday, Phillip Allen said he returned to his car around 10 p.m. to find gifts he had bought at other stores around Bangor had been stolen. Also missing was a bottle of Vicodin and a bottle of prescription strength ibuprofen. Allen reported he had left a rear door unlocked while he was inside.

Allen also reported that he put off reporting the incident because he had to be at work early the next morning. Because two days had passed, Bangor police Officer Myron Warner reported he was unable to confirm that the crime happened.
