WATERVILLE – Josh Caldwell capped a hat trick by scoring the game-winning goal with 4:08 to play Wednesday night, giving unbeaten Brewer a big 3-2 hockey victory over 2002 state runner-up Waterville.
Caldwell gave the 4-0 Witches their first win ever over the Purple Panthers after intercepting a pass in the neutral zone, getting a one-on-one, and scoring with a shot to the top of the net.
Assists on the goal came from Josh Kochis and Ben Caldwell. Spencer Dunbar made 16 saves on 18 shots.
Nate Hart and B.J. LaMarre each had a goal and an assist to pace the 2-2 Panthers. Ryan Cook saved 24 of 27 shots.
Lewiston 5, Bangor 2
At Lewiston, Kirk Bolduc scored three goals to lead the Blue Devils past the Rams.
Ryan Vie posted a goal and three assists and Jake Guerin scored once. Adam Toutain and Matt Morgan added assists.
James Avery and Ethan Borveur combined to make 28 saves on 30 shots for 2-1 Lewiston.
Tim Woodcock and John Huhn scored one goal each for 2-3 Bangor. T.J. Vanidestine and Nick Payson registered assists, while Tommy Daly and Aaron Buzzell combined to make 19 saves on 24 shots.
Winslow 4, John Bapst 3 (OT)
At Sukee Arena in Winslow, Derek Dempsey scored 1:20 into overtime after teammate Adam Cullivan had forced the overtime by scoring an unassisted power-play goal with three seconds left in regulation.
Josh Poulin and Brent Poulin assisted on the game-winner.
Dempsey had two goals and Justin Brow had the other one for 3-1 Winslow. Cullivan had two assists and Dan Bickford had one. Mike Zemrak finished with 17 saves.
Colby Theriault had a pair of goals and an assist for 0-2 John Bapst of Bangor. Kyle Maynard had the other goal while Kim Meagher and Reuben Thibodeau had two assists apiece.
Dan Leighton made 42 saves.
Hampden 9, Stearns 0
At the T.J. Ryan Center in Brewer, Steve Boutin and Mike Brown scored a pair of goals apiece and Garrett Macgowan made 13 saves as Hampden improved to 2-0.
Greg Taylor had a goal and two assists while Adam Standley, Jason Huntley, Andy Caldwell and Chris Bearor had the other goals.
Nick Simon made 52 saves for 0-1 Stearns of Millinocket.

At Newport, Michelle Murray scored 11 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Warriors pulled away form the pesky Broncos.
Danielle Clark racked up 16 points and 16 rebounds for Nokomis, and Gillan Snow had five steals.
Emmy Russell led Hampden with 10 points and seven rebounds. Jill Beal also had seven rebounds to go with six points.
