MARS HILL – Sam Esancy put in an offensive rebound, was fouled and sank the free throw with five seconds left Wednesday night to give Fort Fairfield its come-from-behind 72-71 schoolboy basketball triumph over Central Aroostook.

Aaron Kenneson scored 12 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter as Fort Fairfield rallied from a nine-point deficit.

James McLaughlin had 14 points for the winners and Esancy finished with nine.

Bryan Grew’s 25 points, Patrick Walsh’s 16 and Jason Woodworth’s 15 led Central Aroostook.

At Waterville, Josh Caldwell capped a hat trick outing by scoring the game-winning goal with 4:08 to play and giving unbeaten Brewer a big victory over 2002 state runner-up Waterville.

Caldwell gave the 4-0 Witches their first win over the Purple Panthers after intercepting a pass in the neutral zone, getting a one-on-one, and scoring with a shot to the top of the net. Assists came from Josh Kochis and Ben Caldwell. Spencer Dunbar made 16 saves on 18 shots.
