Founders Day awards
BANGOR – St. Joseph Hospital employees B-J Dumoulin, Joan St. Louis and Betty Ann Cobb were the recipients on Founders Day of the annual Mother Mary Angela Awards presented to those individuals who continue the mission of Blessed Mother Mary Angela, who founded the Felician Sisters on Nov. 21, 1855.
The recipients were nominated for the award by their peers and selected by St. Joseph Healthcare’s mission advisory committee.
B-J Dumoulin of Kenduskeag, a St. Joseph Healthcare employee since 1989, is chief radiologic technologist the radiology department at St. Joseph Hospital.
Joan St. Louis of Old Town has been a hospital employee for 32 years, first as a technician in the central-sterile processing department and later in materials management, where she is currently employed as a capital buyer, facilitating the purchase of medical equipment for St. Joseph Hospital.
Betty Ann Cobb of Glenburn is a volunteer in the hospital gift shop where she has worked as a clerk every Thursday for 15 years.
She is retired from her job as student accounts manager at Husson College, but still works part time as a stocker for American Greetings.
UNE trustee
BREWER – Dr. Kenneth Simone has been named to the University of New England board of trustees. He is a 1987 graduate of UNE’s college of osteopathic medicine in Biddeford.
He has held administrative positions at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor, including chief of the family medicine department and secretary, treasurer, vice president and president of the medical staff.
Simone and his wife, Dr. Julianne Simone, have a family practice, Brewer Family Medicine.
Diabetic retinopathy
BANGOR – The diabetes support group will feature guest speaker Dr. Sean Kull of Kull Family Eye Care at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Diabetes and Nutrition Center, Building 1, St. Joseph Healthcare Park, 900 Broadway.
He will speak about diabetic retinopathy.
The support group, which has moved from Building 2 to Building 1, is free and open to individuals with diabetes and their family members. For information, call 262-1836.
Gifts for Babes program
BANGOR – St. Joseph Healthcare Mission advisory committee selected Spruce run, St. Andre’s Home and the Good Samaritan Agency to participate in the Gifts for Babes program.
Each agency submitted wish lists to the committee. St. Joseph Healthcare employees purchased more than 200 gifts for the agencies.
Diabetes Expo
BANGOR – St. Joseph Hospital’s Diabetes & Nutrition Center is sponsoring a bus trip to the American Diabetes Association’s 2003 Diabetes Expo in Boston 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, March 8.
Those with diabetes and their family members are encouraged to attend.
The Expo will include exhibits featuring the latest diabetes products and services; eye, foot, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings; glucose testing; lectures; questions answered by medical professionals; family fun and excitement including a kid’s zone; giveaways and prizes. The cost is $26 for the bus trip.
