Bird, Deschene lead PI to win Wildcats defeat Old Town

PRESQUE ISLE – Fred Bird scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help lead the Presque Isle Wildcats to a 55-42 schoolboy basketball win over the Old Town Indians Friday night.

Ben Deschene helped Presque Isle erase an eight-point first-quarter deficit by scoring 12 of his 15 points in the second period.

Kyle James had 10 points for the winners and Kyle Rideout gathered 11 rebounds to go with his eight points.

Troy Conary’s 11 points and Tyler Tracewski’s 10 paced Old Town.

At Presque Isle, Ryan Jean scored two goals to help carry Gardiner past the Wildcats.

Shawn Kelley scored a goal and had an assist for the 2-1 Tigers while Brandon Lebourdais picked up the assist. Scott Moulton, Justin Lebourdais and Matt Simon each recorded an assist while Spencer Lahaie stopped 25 of 26 shots.

Joe Flenner scored for 2-2 Presque Isle with the assists going to Trevor Graves and Benji Lynch. Sean Daigle faced 21 shots and stopped 18.

Winslow 7, Stearns 1

At Winslow’s Sukee Arena, Adam Cullivan scored a pair of goals as Winslow overcame a 71-save performance by Stearns High senior goalie Nick Simon.

Justin Brow, Derek Rancourt, Evan Smith, Derrick Dempsey and Brian Poulin had the other goals for 4-1 Winslow and Mike Zemrak made 11 saves.

Freshman Josh Harmon scored for Stearns of Millinocket off a George Surette pass.

Houlton-Hodgdon 8, Foxcroft 2

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor Thursday night, Jared Sylvia scored three goals and Ian Pasquarelli had two goals and two assists as Houlton-Hodgdon ruined Foxcroft Academy’s opener.

Ben Carton had a goal and an assist, Tyler Hutchinson had a goal and Andy Clark and Chris Bither had two assists each. Nick Fitzpatrick made 20 saves.

Mike Freese and Derek Smith scored for Foxcroft and Dan Perkins made 38 saves.
