Rollover damages Knox County cruiser

THOMASTON – A Knox County Sheriff’s Department cruiser was damaged Christmas Eve in a rollover accident on the “cement flats” section of Route 1.

Sgt. Steven Burns, age unavailable, was traveling along Route 1 in front of Dragon Cement Products, when he lost control of his vehicle and rolled it, according to Chief Deputy Todd Butler on Friday.

Maine State Police Trooper Erik Baker investigated the accident, but he was not available Friday to provide details of the crash.

The amount of damage to the 1998 Jeep Cherokee was not known.

The accident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. while Burns was driving alone in the cruiser. He was wearing a seat belt, and no charges resulted from the accident, Butler said.

Burns refused medical transport from the scene of the crash, Butler said, but later was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport “as a matter of policy.”

He was treated for minor injuries and then released.
