NEWRY – Sunday River officials have entered into agreement with the South Portland-based Harris Golf Co. to build a Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed golf course at the resort.
The proposal calls for the 18-hole course to be built on a 350-acre site in the Jordan Bowl area of the resort. The site is located near the 286-unit Jordan Grand Resort Hotel and Conference Center.
The course would cover 7,100 yards from the championship tees. The development plan includes a golf school, driving range, and clubhouse.
Under the agreement, the Harris Golf Co. is responsible for all aspects of course construction including financing. Harris would also be responsible for daily operations of the course once it is competed.
The transaction must be approved by the lenders of American Skiing Co., operators of Sunday River.
Jones previously designed Sugarloaf Golf Club at Sugarloaf/USA in Carrabassett Valley. American Skiing Co. also owns that resort.
