Jones free throws net MDI win over Houlton

MOUNT DESERT – Kyle Jones was 8-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter Monday night as the Mount Desert Island boys basketball team fought off a Houlton comeback to earn a 67-66 win.

Jones scored 28 points to lead the Trojans while Jake King had 19.

Mark Socoby had 22 points for Houlton while Jordan Hill added 11.

Joey Dewitt led Ellsworth with 21 points and Andy Tracy chipped in with 19.

At Millar Civic Center in Houlton, Ian Lee and Greg Taylor scored two goals apiece to lead the Broncos to the win after losing to the Black Hawks on Saturday.

Lance Ingerson, Jason Huntley, and Andy Caldwell all scored one goal for 5-1 Hampden Academy. Garrett Macgowen and Rory Woods combined to stop 19 of 21 shots.

Ian Pasquarelli and Jared Sylvia both scored a goal for 5-2 Houlton-Hodgdon, and Nick Joslyn made 23 saves on 30 shots.

At Mount Desert, Bracey Barker scored 28 points as the Trojans rolled past the Shiretowners.

Three of Barker’s 10 field goals were 3-point baskets. Shelley Gott scored 16 points for MDI.
