St. Joseph to open catheterization lab

BANGOR – A community open house for St. Joseph Hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4.

The blessing and official ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 10 a.m., and guided tours through the new lab beginning at 10:30 a.m. The cardiac cath lab is located in the hospital, and attendees should enter the hospital from the main entrance at 360 Broadway. Refreshments will be served.

St. Joseph Hospital offers a variety of cardiology services including the latest clot-busting drugs to help stop heart attacks, officials said.

With the addition of the new cardiac catheterization lab, diagnostic cardiac catheterization procedures will be performed in order to locate blockages around the heart and help to determine future medical interventions. The cath lab will also perform procedures such as pacemaker insertions and implanting automatic cardiac defibrillators.
