DEER ISLE – A woman hit by a car Friday morning on Route 15 suffered cuts to her face but is expected to recover, according to police.

Brenda Cambron, 37, of Jonesport was working as a flagger while Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. crews worked along Route 15 around 9 a.m. when she was hit by a car, according to Deputy Corey Bagley of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.

Earland Dunham, 70, of Deer Isle was driving a 1993 Chevrolet south when he came upon Cambron in the road between Deer Isle village and Stonington, he said.

Dunham initially didn’t see Cambron, the deputy said. After Dunham saw her and applied the brakes, the car slid on the icy road and hit the flagger, forcing Cambron and the stop sign she was holding up onto the hood of the car and into the windshield, he said.

Witnesses estimated the car was moving at 15 to 20 mph when it hit the woman, the deputy said. The force of the impact broke the windshield and the antenna of the car, he said.

Cambron, who had relatively minor facial lacerations, was taken by ambulance to Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, according to Lt. Tim Cote of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. Cote said Cambron is expected to recover fully from her injuries.

Bagley said he doesn’t expect any charges to be filed in the accident. Dunham, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was taken to the Island Medical Center and treated for shortness of breath, he said.
