HINCKLEY – An Augusta man was killed in a head-on collision Sunday on U.S. Route 201.
Frank E. Murray, 31, was dead at the scene after his Pontiac Grand Am collided with a Chevrolet van driven by Douglas J. Gagne, 66, of South Portland, police said. Gagne suffered facial lacerations.
Fairfield Police Chief John Emery told the Central Maine Morning Sentinel that the highway was mostly clear of snow after Saturday’s storm, but there was some slush near a railroad track about 100 feet from the scene of the crash. “We’re speculating that a train may have pushed snow into the road,” Emery said. “A trooper who went by earlier said it was messy in the area around the tracks.”
