Hersey, Shields lift SAHS by Washbun boys 62-59 Greater Houlton Christian teams record victories

DYER BROOK – Wade Hersey scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half as Southern Aroostook built a 15-point halftime lead and survived a furious second-half rally to beat the Washburn Beavers 62-59 in schoolboy basketball action Saturday.

Corey Shields also had 20 points for the Warriors, 10 in each half.

Corey Edkins had 13 points for the winners, who avenged an early-season loss in Washburn.

Jason Thompson had a game-high 37 points for the Beavers and Zach Bird chipped in with nine.

At Houlton, Friday, Ben Carton and Ian Pasquarelli each scored two goals to help lead 6-2 Houlton-Hodgdon past Foxcroft.

Ben Henderson and Mitch Hall each had a goal and an assist while Tyler Hutchinson scored with an assist from Chris Bither. Jared Sylvia tallied three assists while while Andy Clark had an assist and Aaron Fitzpatrick stopped 14 of 16 shots.

Derek Smith scored and had an assist for 1-3 Foxcroft while Mitch Sawyer added a goal. Josh Sands recorded an assist while Jon Catell made 21 saves on 28 shots.
