STANDISH – Laura Pelkey scored 19 points, including 4-of-5 on 3-pointers, to help the St. Joseph’s women’s basketball tourney beat Norwich 56-47 to win its Monk Classic Saturday.
Plattsburgh State beat UMaine-Fort Kent 59-36 in the consolation game.
Abbie Rice and Marissa Regan each chipped in with nine points for St. Joe’s and Michele Gagnon notched five assists.
Kim Sweeney paced Norwich with 18 points.
Tiffany Braley scored 15 points to pace Plattsburgh in the consolation game while Jessica Noyes had 13 points and four assists for UMFK.

At Springfield, Mass., tourney MVP Carah Dawe’s 3-point play with 1:09 left in regulation broke a tie and the Springfield College Pride hung on to defeat 13th-ranked Southern Maine for the Naismith Classic title Sunday.
USM advanced by beating Muhlenberg 74-51 Saturday.
Dawe paced Springfield with 13 points.
Nikki Allen led USM with 16 points, Megan Cressler added 13 and Tiffany Jones put in 12.
On Saturday, Jones scored 22 points to help the Huskies advance. Cressler added 11 points and had nine rebounds and Katie Frost netted 10 points.
Randi Baran scored 12 points for Muhlenberg.

RPI beat WPI in the championship 80-54. WPI advanced by beating MMA on Saturday 69-50.
Meghan Marshall paced MMA Sunday with 20 points while Erinne Magee and Amanda Johnson each added 12. Julia Knights chipped in with a fine all-around game with nine points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Knights paced MMA in Saturday’s loss with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

USM drops two at Williamstown
At Williamstown, Mass., Williams College and Clark University both topped the Univeristy of Southern Maine in the Purple and Gold Tournament hosted by Williams over the weekend.
On Friday, Williams College out scored the Huskies 82-62 and Clark University beat USM 101-88 in the consolation game Saturday.
Drew DeMuth scored 20 points and had 12 rebounds to give the Williams College the win in the first round on Friday. Dave McNamara scored 34 points to lead Clark in the consolation game.
Jason Levecque scored 14 points on Friday and 30 points on Saturday for USM and Mike Francoeur had 13 points on Friday and 27 points Saturday.
