WINTERPORT – Residents have agreed to sell the former UnitedKingfield Bank building downtown to Sisters Restaurant.
Town Manager Leo LaChance said Monday that voters at Saturday’s special town meeting agreed to sell the 14-by-70-foot wood frame building to restaurant owner Rose DeGennaro for $20,000.The vote was 28-1 in favor of the sale.
The building is on a lot that fronts Route 1A. It originally was the site of the town hall and fire station. The building was constructed as a bank 25 years ago on the land, still owned by the town. The last occupant, UnitedKingfield Bank, terminated its lease with the town a year ago and sold the building to the town for $1.
The building is leased to H.E. Sargent Corp. for use as a construction office. Sargent is handling work on the upgrade of the town’s sewer and water lines and resurfacing of Route 1 though the village. LaChance said the town plans to find another location for the office.
LaChance said Sisters Restaurant plans to relocate to the 136 Main St. building as soon as possible. The restaurant is located in a business block on the opposite side of the street.
