HENNIKER, N.H. – The University of Maine-Farmington women used a balanced scoring attack to hold off the New England Pilgrims 74-68 in basketball action Tuesday night.

Megan Woodcock scored 18 points to pace the winners and Jocelyn Sawyer added 15. Cheryl Kempton chipped in with 11 points and Lydia Coverdale netted 10.

Amy Hendricks poured in 32 points to lead NEC.

At Machias, Sara Ricker scored 14 points while Gill Guest had 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead the University of Maine-Machias to victory over the University of New Brunswick-Saint John.

Gill Guest had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the UMM Clippers. Miranda Richardson had 12 points and Emma Apatu 10.

Robyn Moore led UNB with 24 points, Kathy Brewer added 12, and Jaqueline Kennedy scored 10.

Tiffany Jones led Southern Maine with 17 points while Megan Cressler and Katie Frost had 10 points apiece.

Drea DeAngelo paced Colby with 19 points while Christine O’Donnell tossed in 17 and Blanca Belcher had 10.

Nick Casavant of Presque Isle added 10 points for Southern Maine.

Kevin Crossman had 21 points to lead Colby while Jared Cushman scored 12 points.

Women’s hockey

At Orono, Meagan Aarts scored goals in the second and third periods and Dawn Froats made 16 saves as the Black Bears beat the Red Raiders for the second straight night.

Tristan Desmet scored the other goal for UMaine, which improved to 5-7-2. Naomi Smethurst assisted on both Aarts goals, while Morgan Janusc and Andrea Steranko posted an assist each.

Aarts broke a scoreless tie with a goal at 13:43 of the second period, but UMaine didn’t make it 2-0 until Desmet’s tally at 4:19 of the third.

Micki King scored the only goal of the series for 9-9 Colgate on a third-period power play. Rebecca Lahar racked up 30 saves.
